It’s time for a New Year, New Website!

Websites need refreshing every now and then to bring the best experience for your customers and drive business and sales. Your website is usually the first port of call for your audience so it needs to be the best it can be.

How can you make sure your website is the best it can be?

Here are some tips from me to you on how to get your website working its best ready for 2019.

Website Maintenance

First and foremost, you need to take care of your website. Make sure it’s working the best it can be with these tips:

  1. Check it’s up-to-date

Things can go wrong; websites and plug-ins can break if they aren’t updated often. I’ve written a handy blog post here ( all about updating your website so take a look!

  1. Fix Broken Links

The last thing you want is for your customers to hit a block in your website! What happens if the link they want to go to can’t be found? Fixing all your broken links can keep customers from leaving your website and luckily, there are plenty of places online to find and fix broken links. Why not try (

  1. Is it compatible with all devices?

Mobiles are one of the most commonly used devices for customers to search and find the products/services they want. And with Google’s new algorithms, websites not compatible with mobile are often left out of search results! Bad news for your website if it’s not optimised well. Make sure yours is!

Update Your Information

Making sure your website is working is the most important aspect to look at for the new year but so is updating your information.

  1. Check ‘Contact’ information

Is your address, phone number, email, etc. all correct and easy to find? Have you included all of your social media links so they can find you on other platforms?

  1. Check your ‘About’ page is up-to-date

Will customers know who you are and what you do from this page? If you list staff, are everyone’s details up-to-date? Have you included any new services/products you’ve recently introduced?

  1. Check all media is fine

Like with updating your website, things can go wrong. Occasionally, some media files may break or disappear (images, videos, etc.). Check through your site and make sure all media files are in place for a neat and user-friendly experience.

Content/SEO Check

Finally, you can’t refresh your website without considering the content of your site. SEO relies heavily on the content you post and good SEO brings in customers.

  1. Revise and Proofread Content

It’s a good idea to check over your existing content for any mistakes in grammar/spelling or to make sure they’re still relevant. There’s no use keeping content that’s no longer relevant to your website or business! Check your keywords are still relevant and that not too many are used in one post – you don’t want to be penalized by Google’s algorithms!

  1. Analytics

How can you tell if your content is relevant and/or useful? Easy, check your analytics. What posts are working well and what aren’t? Are there any posts you want to increase traffic on that you can link in other posts?

  1. Content Creation

Finally, once you’ve made sure your website is up-to-date, optimised to the best it can be and you know what content is working best, plan ahead with future posts. You know what customers are looking for and what keywords are getting your website seen so create relevant content ideas that’ll keep traffic coming to your site.
